Does this mean we can expense our bar tabs?

January 21, 2004

Technology Trends reports that Polyfuel has commercially released a membrane for creating fuel cells for laptops and cellphones.

Apparently the membrane will allow you to power your mobile device from a “safe-to-transport” mixture of methanol and water, producing water and CO2 as byproducts.

I wonder if this would work for ethanol, also?  I rather like the idea of dropping by the local watering hole, and ordering a gin and tonic, and “another one for my lil’ buddy here”..

Gee, if they also had free wi-fi, you could claim you worked so hard you were in the bar until last call…

Toon BabesShane Glines Cartoon and Illustration Paradise (link may not be entirely safe for work) brings us a wonderful collection of cartoons, mostly admiring the female form.  The site features some of Shane’s own great work, as well as a growing library of lesser-known illustrations from other great artists.  (Shane is probably best known for his work on Ren & Stimpy, and the Superman, Batman, and Batman Beyond comics). Verisign consumes weblogs.com?According to Kottke, apparently weblogs.com has been sold to Verisign. For the non blog-geeks in the audience, weblogs.com is one of the major sites that blogs "update" every time they make a new post, to let all of the various services know that they've got something new to say. The Evil Empire Verisign, on the other hand, are the people who sell SSL certificates for 10x as much as anyone else does, and (since they bought Network Solutions a few years back) send out all of the annoying renewal notices for domains that aren't even registered with them, in hopes somebody will be unobservent enough to pay their inflated fees rather than the proper registrar. Nifty. Now all we need...

We’ll see you on the dark side of the moon…Logging in from the “barely connected” port… I was thinking the other day that between technology and my workstyle, I’d finally reached a point to where I could work pretty much anywhere but on the dark side of the moon… I mean hey, if I’ve got broadband, I can even have local home dialtone and phone number wherever I am… After all my mobility planning for this weekend, however, this place still turns out to BE the dark side of the moon.  My cellphone kind of works, but GPRS connectivity is nowhere to be found, nor has any wi-fi turned up… So it’s back to my laptop, and a disposable dialup account, which I paid for a month for to...

iHome iH5 Clock Radio for iPod ReviewAmong the booty Santa left this year was the iHome iH5 Clock Radio. Okay, so Santa didn't leave it -- I got one for each of my kids (both in college, and not the swiftest to get up in the mornings), and had to get one for myself as well. I love it. I've got several sets of iPod speakers scattered around -- one of the Altec Lansing inMotion speakers, a Tivoli iPal in the kitchen, etc. This thing frankly sounds better than all of them. Plus it's cheaper than all of them. Plus it's a clock radio. What else could you ask for? Well, it could be a tad bit smaller. It's a bit on the big side for...
