EZ-Bake Phones Part II

May 1, 2003

Via Gizmodo The Beijing Star Daily reports a woman burned her new mobile phone attempting to sterilize it in a microwave.

I guess if you don’t have baseball players to throw them at, you make do with whatever’s handy…

(I know being worried about SARS is serious, but two reports of nuked phones in the same week?)

Grape Balls of FireSince a lot of people seem to wander on here for the “don’t microwave your peanut butter” story, I figured I’d share this with everybody—the Physics inside a Microwave Oven page. This site is full of a lot of things you should never, ever do with your microwave oven, many of them with video of the excitement.  Highlights include lighting a lightbulb, crisping a CD, and (my personal favorite) generating balls of flaming plasma from split grapes… Kids, don’t try this at home. -----...

Coming Soon to a Foster’s Commercial Near YouAustralian for “Battery Charger" FIRE authorities said today a Perth man was lucky to escape unharmed after his explosive attempt to recharge his mobile phone battery - in a microwave oven. Firefighters were called to the man's home in suburban Scarborough last night after the battery exploded inside the oven, causing smoke to pour out of the appliance. Fire and Emergency Services district officer Alan Riley said the man was lucky not to have been injured in the incident, which caused about $200 damage to the microwave. "It's a timely reminder to people not to put things in the microwave other than food - and this includes phone batteries or using your microwave to dry your clothes," Mr Riley said....

iTunes Mobile Launch Date ConfirmedMotorola appears to have confirmed mid-July as the launch date for iTunes Mobile, albeit in a fairly inadvertant manner. Apparently Gizmodo was contacted and asked to remove their iTunes Mobile screenshots as the finals would not be available until "mid July when the product launches." Lojack Your PetFor when spaying or neutering isn’t enough… A Japanese company is getting ready to introduce a GPS & mobile phone based “service to track missing dogs.”:http://gizmodo.net/archives/002340.php#002340 They introduced a version for the children and elderly two years ago… (I wonder if they have anything that can figure out where my youthful idealism went?) T-Mobile Treo 650 on the way?It sounds like a T-Mobile Treo 650 might be coming a lot sooner than most of us expected… Gizmodo is reporting a sighting by a corporate customer. "Hey joel, not sure if this is news, but t-mobile sent my company 3 treo 650s as a thank-you for renewing a bunch of cell phone accounts. i hadn’t heard anything official about t-mobile supporting treo 650, but this is clear evidence." This is only to be expected, after I finally broke down and got a Sprint version of course… On the other hand, T-Mobile has still to roll out their EDGE service, and I don’t suspect that many of the things I like about the Treo would be nearly as much fun...
