New Alabama 3 Album and Tour Alabama 3, the “music industry’s best kept secret”, has just announced the dates for their new tour, in support of their soon-to-be-released new album, “Outlaw". w00t! A new album, and a new tour! Unfortunately, the tour isn’t coming within 5,000 miles of me, but hey, I can still enjoy it vicariously… As always, you can find more details about this, like all things Alabama 3, at Free A3 - The unofficial Alabama 3 forum. Alabama 3 - Outlaw Early Review"There’s a train a-coming..." It looks like things are ramping up for the imminent release of the new Alabama 3 ("A3" in the US) album, “Outlaw”. An early review is available here... "The latest offering is simply called “Outlawâ€Â. Once again it features wit as sharp as a needle. Once again it’s built around a melange of country, bluegrass, the blues and home-grown techno. However, where previous outings occasionally found the disparate elements engaged in a stylistic tug of war, this set sounds completely natural. No longer a case of welding together opposites in a perverse game of Push The Parameters, but simply an exercise in common ground. These are sounds that emerged from the (under)ground up. Decades apart perhaps,...
Alabama 3 - Intervention (The Futech Mixes) - ReviewOkay, anybody who knows my taste in music (or lack thereof) knows that I tend to collect remixes of Alabama 3 music like a dark shirt collects cat hair. Naturally, the quality of these mixes tend to vary from "Hey, that's pretty good!" to "Just how loaded were they?", but some of the consistently best remixes have come from a denizen of the Unofficial Alabama 3 Forum named Futech. While most of us A3 fans are anxiously awaiting the new studio album, due out someday fairly soon with any luck, Futech has put together 8 of his best remixes into an album, which he's titled "Intervention". He's even done up cover art. While this is far from official (and far...
Unleaded DRMI'm already tired of hearing people bitch about the new iTunes Store / EMI deal to offer DRM-free music. The typical whine is about paying $0.30 more for them not to put DRM on the music. Get a grip, folks -- for your $0.30, you also get a reasonable sampling rate (256Kb/s AAC - double the old rate -- is awfully close to CD quality), and if you don't want to buy ala carte, the whole album (without DRM, at 256Kb/s) is the same price as the old DRM'd up one. Besides, it's not like they don't know you'll go for it -- how much extra money did you pay the oil companies to not put lead in your gasoline?...
