Gonzo - The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — Hunter S. Thompson was an American Hero in the truest sense of the word. That’s why I think it’s particularly fitting that Gonzo is slated to open on July 4th*. There’s a much high quality trailier available at Apple, but for those of you who can’t be bothered, here’s the YouTube version:

* although I freely admit it’d be even better if it would open someplace you could smoke, drink Wild Turkey and set off fireworks (and handguns) (and howitzers) while you watched it. You know Doc would have wanted it that way.

Hunter Thompson’s last blast…CNN is reporting that plans are underway to honor Hunter’s final wish. Hunter S. Thompson’s ashes will be blasted from a cannon mounted inside a 53-foot-high (16.15 meter-high) sculpture of the journalist’s “gonzo fist” emblem, his wife said Tuesday. The cannon shot, planned sometime in August on the grounds of his Aspen-area home, will fulfill the writer’s long-cherished wish. Fair ‘nuff. (via BoingBoing) ...

ThompsonA fascinating, 30 year old BBC documentary on the Good Doctor and Ralph Steadman, five years after Nixon's resignation, and on a road trip to Hollywood (to work on what would become "Where the Buffalo Roam").
