Hello Kitty iPod Mini

January 24, 2005

Am I the only person that gets more creeped out by Hello Kitty every time I see it? I mean I even like tolerate have been colonized by cats, but there’s just a serious “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” vibe I get every time I see the thing… (I mean geez — crop circles, even?)

In any event, if you’re already a pod person, or otherwise a Hello Kitty fan, there’s now a Hello Kitty iPod mini for you, complete with the trademarked Sanrio emblem and a keychain… There’s even a dock available, shaped like a bear that’s even more creepy looking (if that’s possible.)

Hand-Crank iPod PowerHow many cranks does it take to get to the chewy nugget center of your iPod? GeekTechnique finds out, in this how-to article on converting a hand-cranked flashlight and cellphone charger to a charger for an iPod mini. Well, this setup works (yay!), but with a lot of cranking involved, so I have to be quite desperate for some tunes and miles away from another possibility to charge it, before I crank power my ipod this way… but hey, it is possible! (and for me, that was the point of doing all this) Okay, well you'd have to be fairly desperate for tunes to be willing to crank this thing for all it's worth, but it's always nice to see...

iHome iH5 Clock Radio for iPod ReviewAmong the booty Santa left this year was the iHome iH5 Clock Radio. Okay, so Santa didn't leave it -- I got one for each of my kids (both in college, and not the swiftest to get up in the mornings), and had to get one for myself as well. I love it. I've got several sets of iPod speakers scattered around -- one of the Altec Lansing inMotion speakers, a Tivoli iPal in the kitchen, etc. This thing frankly sounds better than all of them. Plus it's cheaper than all of them. Plus it's a clock radio. What else could you ask for? Well, it could be a tad bit smaller. It's a bit on the big side for...

iPod Audiobook GuideAt iPodlounge, Kirk McElhearn has posted "The Complete Guide to iPod Audiobooks" This nice little write-up covers both purchasing and listening to audiobooks from Audible (via iTunes Music Store) and producing your own audiobook and making i bookmarkable. I do a lot of the latter myself, but I still managed to learn a few things (among other things, I didn't realize that making an audio bookmarkable automatically put it in the Music > Audiobooks menu; I always just find mine based on the playlist I've put them in.)...

iHome iH6 iPod Clock Radio (Review)(iSwear iM getting sick of the whole iProduct naming thing...) Oh well; lack of originality in a name never hurt anything, iSuppose. In any event... I got my first iHome iPod clock radio (the iH5) for Christmas, 2005. It was exceedingly cool, and then pretty cool, and then mostly cool, and then (just recently) it sucked enormously. The concept was great -- wake up to your playlist, keep your iPod handy and charged, and it doubled as a damn good iPod speaker dock. Unfortunately, the execution lacked a bit -- the display was hard to read (there were very few brightness settings that were readable during full light that didn't try to give you a fluorescent tan while you slept),...
