Stern takes audience with him when he goes…

April 28, 2004

God knows I’m not Howard Stern’s biggest fan (I kind of lost track of him when he lost his Dallas affiliate a few years ago), but I always figure as long as he’s on the air, freedom of speech is getting a good deal of necessary exercise.

So I can’t help but be amused at the results of the FCC and Clear Channel’s latest crackdown.  In San Diego, the local Clear Channel affiliate was number one in the mornings back in February; now it’s in 27th place, sans Stern.  There were similar results in other markets.

Maybe sooner or later everyone will just shut up and let us get back to January 2004, and quit trying to force the airwaves back to the 1950’s.

In the meantime, would the last Clear Channel listener please shut off the transmitter when you’re done?

this is very good news. although i quit listening to HS in the late 80s, i’m terribly distressed about all the furor which resulted in CC’s booting him off. i still hold hope it’s not indicative of the shape of things to come.

This too shall pass, I suspect.  It’s an election year, and this is just the national equivilent of chasing the hookers off the street so the voters think they’re accomplishing something.

It might have happened even without Janet Jackson’s overly decorated tit flopping out on national TV, but that was all the excuse they needed to go chase this and distract us from anything that might actually have real importance.
