Syndication — Now More Del.icio.us

August 7, 2004

For those who tend to read this site via a newsreader, you probably noticed something new, and that’s integration of links I’ve posted to my del.icio.us profile.

This is done automagically via FeedBurner’s nifty new link splicer.

Slashdot and del.icio.us?I keep seeing this in del.icio.us/popular... Who are these people who keep adding bookmarks to del.icio.us for Slashdot, anyway?  I know I’m becoming a curmudgeon, but who discovers del.icio.us without having discovered Slashdot? I think the tide turned on del.icio.us when I started noticing bookmarks for Google… We must be getting near the middle of Endless September by now… -----...

It’s a bookmark that knows somebody…I’ve seen various references to del.icio.us lately, but even though I glanced at it a few times, the appeal wasn’t immediately obvious to me, and not having time to dig for it, I moved on. This thing needs a better PR firm. This time I actually registered and tried it. del.icio.us rocks. Here’s my shot at an elevator pitch—it’s a bookmark that knows somebody.  Go register (trust me, just do it), and follow the instructions and drag a “my del.icio.us” link and a “post to del.icio.us” (or popup) link to your toolbar.  Now, when you find a site, you can use the “post” link to bookmark it.  The “tags” are essentially categories for the bookmark (think “bookmark folders"). So what? ...

Class Notes: New Year’s Resolutions for the Internet Marketer I'd like to thank everyone who joined me for today's free teleclass, New Year's Resolutions for the Internet Marketer. If you missed this one, be sure to catch next week's free teleclass -- Your Website & The 30 Second Sale. Here are the notes from this afternoon's teleclass: On a successful small business web site, the primary source of traffic will tend to be search engine traffic. There's a lot of advice out there on search engine optimization, some good and some not so good, but virtually all of it agrees on a few basic concepts: Search engines like fresh content. Relevant links to your site improve your traffic The more unique, original material you have, the higher the...

Why you should read weblogsYou're a busy person, and you already spend all of the time you can afford keeping up with your industry.  Should you bother taking the time to learn about weblogs?  You betcha -- the benefits to your business and your bottom line can be immense, and once you do, you'll wonder what you were waiting for. The most common misconception about blogs is that they are all written by teenage girls writing about their angst-ridden love lives, shut-in geeks talking about what they had for lunch, or wannabe political pundits trying to overthrow the government. Well, okay.  All of those things are out there.  But you don't avoid the newsstand simply because it carries teen magazines and the occasional comic...

Delicious and FirefoxI finally managed to blow up my Firefox extensions the other day, probably the result of having been adding and deleting and adding and deleting and adding and deleting extensions since way back in the early betas.  So, I ended up just deleting my Firefox settings folder (after saving my bookmarks) and starting over. The good news is that it got rid of a lot of cruft that I really wasn’t using (and hey, that really does speed things up).  The bad news is that I’m now going through cycles of remembering yet another extension I need (usually right when I need it) and adding it and restarting.  I’m also finding some nifty new upgrades and alternatives though, so it’s...
