Verisign consumes weblogs.com?

October 6, 2005

According to Kottke, apparently weblogs.com has been sold to Verisign.

For the non blog-geeks in the audience, weblogs.com is one of the major sites that blogs “update” every time they make a new post, to let all of the various services know that they’ve got something new to say.

The Evil Empire Verisign, on the other hand, are the people who sell SSL certificates for 10x as much as anyone else does, and (since they bought Network Solutions a few years back) send out all of the annoying renewal notices for domains that aren’t even registered with them, in hopes somebody will be unobservent enough to pay their inflated fees rather than the proper registrar.

Nifty. Now all we need is for them to send us about a dozen renewal notices for every blog post we make…

FYI, Verisign sold network solution a while back.

You are indeed correct — I’ve gone so far out of my way to avoid them since other registrars came around, that I missed that Verisign sold them in 2003…

I hearby take back half of what I said about Verisign ;-)
